Thanks to Brenda for this recipe. She has been making it for years for our family and now we always say, “Aw Nuts!” and laugh when she brings them.
Adjust the sugar to your liking. The original recipe calls for 1 cup but we tend not to need so much. I’ve also seen others use a mixture of brown sugar and white sugar. And if you are looking for something more savory, leave out the cinnamon. Or add cayenne if you like some kick. Or if you prefer more of a candy, replace the water with vanilla. So many options!
A great holiday gift in a reusable jar. And relatively healthy!
Lightly Candied Pecans
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg white
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 pound pecan halves
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, optional
- 1 dash cayenne, optional
- 1 splash vanilla, optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
- Mix sugar, cinnamon, and salt together in a bowl.
- Whisk egg white and water together in a separate bowl until frothy.
- Toss pecans in the egg white mixture. Mix sugar mixture into pecan mixture until pecans are evenly coated.
- Spread coated pecans onto a baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven, stirring every 15-20 minutes, until pecans are evenly browned, 1 hour.
